Human resources

Our work-team consists of 26 people, 6 of them perform administrative activities, 17 of them perform operational activities, and 3 of them have management responsibilities. Our staff counts with the pertinent training and many of our employees have university studies.

In the area of Customs, we count with 5 Customs Brokers, 2 Attorneys and 9 who deal with simple proceedings.

Office infrastructure

We have two offices: Our head-office is located in the historical part of the city of Montevideo and the operational office is located in ZONAMERICA.

The head-office has 200 m2 of construction. Its construction is contemporaneous with Palacio Taranco (governmental construction that is used for protocol activities). It was built as an annex building at the beginning of the XX century.

Because of its antique construction and its historical value, our offices are part of the National Historical Heritage. It was restored in 1998 when it became our head-office. It has working areas which are comfortable, and that were designed by Herman Miller. They are well-lit and have rubble-work of fine wood, fire-places with a rim and a fine shelf of antique marble.

The central-heating system is the original one of the construction with a boiler and water-heaters in all the rooms. Said system has been complemented with an additional system of air-conditioning.

Computing infrastructure and communications

Our computing equipment is based on a Windows NT network, with a data server to which 22 PC Windows of the head-office and of the office of Montevideo Free Zone are connected on-line, sharing the database. Communications (e-mail and Internet) are processed through a Linux server.

The offices of Montevideo and Free Zone are connected through a direct digital line of high speed with multiplexors, allowing voice and data transfer.

A multi-user computing system allows management of customs clearance procedures independent from the geographical location from where it is operated.

The access through Internet to the central systems of the Uruguayan Customs (Lucía) and The National Administration of Ports (A.N.P.), enables us to execute and visualize the status of the operations, step by step. Complementary systems allow us to compile the statistics information, which is useful for the internal and external monitoring of our administration.

We have direct links with most of the Banks with whom we operate, enabling us to make virtual transactions.

Transport infrastructure

The area of transports consists of 6 units which are proper for the transportation of merchandise complying with strict security standards and legal requirements of traffic and insurance.

The permanent maintenance and introduction of new units, enable us to offer guaranty and reliability. At present we have an aggregate load and transportation capacity of 75 m3 or 22 tons of dry load.
Last year we have incorporated an isothermic truck equipped to maintain controlled and refrigerated temperatures, with a capacity of 33 cubic meters.

Our units have the authorization for the transportation of in-transit merchandise, granted by the Customs National Board (D.N.A.) and compulsory insurance of civil responsibility both of the merchandise and the transport itself.

Infrastructure of the office of ZONAMERICA (merchandise warehousing and handling)

The office-building has two floors which allow a free distribution of tasks within each office. For an easier access to the administrative area, a double entrance has been provided: front and back access.

The access hall, as well as circulation areas along common places, have been constructed with high-quality materials, according to the overall design of the building, in order to contribute to a better functionality.

Our areas cover an area of 220 m2 corresponding to offices 110B and 111.

Offices are equipped with air conditioners, electric and telephonic installations, fitted carpet, light ceilings, aluminium blinds. They also have a private toilette and kitchenette both for the administrative personnel and the warehouse workers.

The common areas have fire hydrants equipped with hoses and fog pointers. Offices and warehouses have a system for detecting smoke and fire, with centralised control and vigilance all day long.

The system of arrival/departure of people is controlled through a central system based on magnetic identification cards.

Our warehouses consist of two adjoining premises with a storage capacity of 2005 m2, with personal 24 hours a day , and a warehousing infrastructure of pallet racks of 3 and 4 load levels, pile-up racks of a maximum height of 6 modules, load equipment such as Komatsu lift and electric Clark (useful when working inside containers) and two manual transpallet.

On the high plant of the warehouse, exclusive warehousing areas have been equipped according to the special requirements of our customers. There are also specific working areas (testing laboratories, samples selection, value added tasks, etc).

Business agencies infrastructure

Since the time of our formal establishment as Customs Brokers in 1985 till today, we have developed a net of business agencies, covering all customs offices throughout the country.

All business agencies have their own office and staff, and are located at bordering cities. They constitute strategic units to supply services concerning land traffic with Argentina, Brazil and other neighbouring countries.

In the littoral zone (Argentinian border) there are terrestrial Business Agencies in Salto/Concordia, Fray Bentos/Gualeguaychú and fluvial ones in Juan Lacaze, Nueva Palmira and Colonia/Buenos Aires (via Ferry-Boat). In the East zone (Brazilian Border) there are terrestrial Business Agencies in Río Branco/Yaguarao and Chuy/Chui. In the Centre-South zone, there are interior Business Agencies in Nueva Helvecia and Florida, neighbouring the corresponding Free Zones. Other Customs such as Piriápolis and Punta del Este are directly managed by our office in Montevideo.

The Business Agencies are communicated with the head-office via electronic means and have e-mail addresses under our Internet domain.
